Board of Directors

Sheri L. Allen - President

Sheri moved to Lewiston, Idaho in 1996 when she and her husband, Richard Allen, purchased a medical practice.  She is the office manager for his practice.  They have been married for 35 years.  She is the mother of three and grandmother to three beautiful granddaughters who all live in Arizona.  Sheri was born and raised in California where she was the oldest of ten children.  She has been on the Family Promise Board since 2015 and served as the coordinator for her church for 4 years prior to becoming a board member.  She has served on the Lewiston School District Board of Directors since 2003.  She is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently serves as president of the children’s programs.   Her parents and grandparents were excellent examples of service and she credits them for her desire to volunteer and be involved in the community.   Her hobbies are camping, boating, reading and anything where the whole family can be together.

Toni Kraut - Vice President

Toni Kraut was born and raised in Lewiston. She graduated from Lewiston High School and LCSC.  She was on the original core committee for Family Promise in 2006 and has been involved ever since.  She is married to Loren and they have two grown children Stacy and Rich and one granddaughter Emma.  She retired in 2018 from the medical field after over 40 years.  She is an active member of All Saints Catholic Church.  She has a passion for social justice and the poor.  She enjoys fundraising and has been doing it since her children attended St. Stanislaus (now All Saints) Catholic School where she was the first fundraising chair and started the Christmas tree sale. She has volunteered for various organizations in the Lewis-Clark Valley including Interlink, Dogwood Festival, LCSC Advisory Committee and the NAIA World Series. She also organizes her high school class reunions. Since retirement she enjoys playing pickleball and babysitting her granddaughter.

Jana Peer - Treasurer/Secretary

Jana is a nearly life-long valley resident. She is married with two, now adult, daughters and have four grandkids. She worked in the advertising department at the Tribune for several years. Then, after some time at home, she worked in the office of a local hardware store for 17 years as a secretary, in pricing and inventory, and as a bookkeeper. Jana was involved in starting Family Promise in the valley, and served two terms on the Board of Trustees. She enjoys using the graphics and administrative skills she learned while working, in the volunteering that she now does.

Liz Chavez 

Liz was born in Wendell, Idaho in 1946. She moved to Lewiston with her family in 1960, graduating from LHS in 1965 and from LCSC with a degree in elementary education in 1970. She taught at Lincoln Middle School in Clarkston for 30 years, retiring in 2000. After serving as the chair of the Nez Perce County Democrats and coordinating Mike Mitchell's campaign for the legislature, she ran in 2006 and served in the House for four years. She has been married to Jerry Chavez for 44 years and had two children, our daughter Felicia who teaches special education in Santa Fe, and our son John who died in 1993. She serves on a number of other boards including the LC Foundation, Valley Transit, and the League of Women Voters as well as at her church. 

Trevor Arnone

I was born in Spokane and raised in the Lewis-Clark Valley the majority of my life. I graduated from Asotin High School. I attended Arizona State University and majored in Business Communications. I am a financial advisor with Edward Jones Investments. I also belong to Rotary and serve on the Tri-State Hospital Foundation board as a trustee. Joining the Family Promise board is allowing me to serve the community in many facets and make the world a better place.

Don James

Don was born and raised in Butte, Montana.  He attended the University of Montana and Pacific University receiving a “doctor of optometry” degree in 1970.  While serving 9 years in the United States Air Force he lived in Turkey, Germany and Riverside, CA.  He then had a solo practice in Rocklin, CA for 14 years.  He became a staff member of Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute in 1992 and was instrumental in developing a surgical-referral clinic in Lewiston.  He retired in 2020. 

He has served on a number of boards including the Rocklin Chamber of Commerce, California Optometric Credit Union and the Idaho State Board of Optometry.  He is a past president of the Idaho Optometric Physicians and the Rocklin Rotary Club.  He and his wife Sandra have six children and 13 grandchildren.  He is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, currently serving as an Elder’s Quorum councilor.  His hobbies include music, fishing, skiing, golf and traveling.

Staff

Steve Thomas - Executive Director

Steve was born and raised in Moscow and became a Youth Pastor for the Church of the Nazarene in 1985. He served as Youth Pastor in Moscow, St. Maries, and Lewiston for a total of 26 years. Steve is an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene.  In 2011 Steve joined the Family Promise staff. Steve has been an active part of Family Promise since it began and was a founding member of the Board of Directors. Steve has always been active in our community coaching soccer, working with teens building beds for needy children and teaching abstinence programs in the public schools. Steve’s wife Jeana is a second grade teacher in Lewiston and they have four adult children.

Angela Porter - Case Manager

Angela joined our team in the fall of 2021. Angela grew up in Clarkston and comes to us with a wealth of experience working with people. She was a guest in our program a number of years ago so she has a clear understanding of the challenges of homelessness and the obstacles that many families face. Angela has a heart for families in crisis and is deeply committed to the mission of Family Promise. Angela's husband Sean is a Chef in the valley and they have a beautiful little girl.
